Giving Feedback and Managing Ideas
How Do I Comment on Ideas?
When viewing an Idea, a comment box appears at the bottom of the page. Type your thoughts into the comments box and click “Add Comment”. Comments will show up with your Username attached.
In order to comment on multiple ideas at once, while within a Category/Campaign, choose the “Moderate” option, and click the “Add Comment” button.
You can view all Ideas in the Category or Campaign, along with their state and vote count. You can also filter the Ideas by vote count, state, tags, or keywords.
After you‘ve selected the Ideas that you’d like to comment on, click the “Next Step” button and add in your comment. Note that this comment will be public, and will not be limited to Moderators only. Additionally, you may choose to mention particular Users in the comment.
Click “Next Step” again once you’re finished to review your changes. At this point, you can go back and Edit any step that may still need revisions by clicking the “Edit” link next to that section (Select Ideas or Add Comment).
To submit your comment, click “Make Changes”.
How Can I Suggest Changes to an Idea?
All Users can suggest revisions to other Users’ Ideas in Kindling by opening an Idea and clicking the “Revise” tab above the Idea.
You can edit the title or description of the Idea and are asked to provide a note explaining your proposed changes.
Suggested Revisions are emailed to the Idea’s creator for approval. They also receive an in-app notification about the proposed revision. An email reminding them to take action on your proposal will be sent two days later.
Only one revision to an Idea can be proposed at a time; if one revision has been proposed, no other Users can propose a revision until the Idea's author accepts or declines the current revision.
Can I Move Ideas to Different Categories/Campaigns?
Yes, Ideas can moved to new Categories and Campaigns after they‘ve been created. The need for this may occur if an Idea was incorrectly assigned to a certain category, or if it now is a better fit for a new Category or Campaign. To move a single Idea, select the Idea, then choose the “Edit” option from the menu at the top, below the Ideas title. From the Edit screen, select the new Category or Campaign, then click “Update this Idea” to submit your changes.
To move multiple Ideas to a new Category/Campaign, while within a Category/Campaign, choose the “Moderate” option. Then choose “Change Category/Campaign”.
You can view and select all Ideas in the Category or Campaign, or filter the Ideas by vote count, state, Tags or keywords.
Click ”Next Step” and choose the Category or Campaign that you’d like to move these Ideas to.
Click “Next Step” again to review your changes, and then click the “Make Changes” button, to submit your change.
What Can I Do If I See Two Very Similar Ideas in Kindling?
Kindling discourages duplication by warning Users of potentially similar ideas while a new idea is being drafted. In the rare case where multiple Users submit similar ideas, one way for Moderators to address that is to create a workflow state named ‘Duplicate’ and move the idea entered last into that state. Then, add a comment to the idea marked as a duplicate that you will be continuing the conversation in the idea you are keeping open, and include a link to that idea.
Can I Edit Ideas that Others Have Submitted?
Moderators (in the Categories they can moderate) can edit Ideas without first waiting for the author to approve their changes. When viewing an Idea, click the gear button in the right-hand corner, then select “Edit”. All aspects of the Idea can be edited, including the title, description, attachments, tags, and contributors. The Idea can even be moved to a new Category or Campaign by modifying the Category selection. However, be advised that moving an Idea will cause all votes on the Idea to be lost.
Directly editing other participants’ Ideas should be done sparingly.
How Do I Disable Commenting on an Idea?
Only Administrators and Moderators can disable public Comments on Ideas in Kindling. Administrators can disable comments on any Idea. Moderators can disable comments on Ideas in Categories they Moderate.
There are two ways to disable public commenting on an Idea. The first is to, when viewing an Idea, click on the actions menu (gear icon) in the upper right corner of the Idea, then select “Disable User comments”.
You can also disable comments on an Idea using the control box directly under the comments when viewing an Idea.
When commenting is disabled on an Idea, a notification will be displayed on the View Idea page letting all participants know that comments have been disabled.
Note that when public comments are disabled on an Idea, Administrators, and Moderators may still comment on that Idea.
How Can I Remove Content from Kindling?
Moderators can remove inappropriate content from Kindling to ensure that privacy policies are respected and conversation remains constructive. To Remove Ideas, Posts, or Comments from Kindling, click on the actions menu and select “Remove”.

In order to edit multiple tags at once, while within a Category/Campaign, choose the “Moderate” option, and click the “Edit Tags” button.
You can view all Ideas in the Category or Campaign, along with tags, or you can filter the Ideas by vote count, state, tags, or keywords.

Click “Next Step” again once you’re finished to review your changes. At this point, you can go back and edit any step that may still need revisions by clicking the “Edit” link next to that section (Selected Ideas or tags to be added).
How Do I Recognize or Reward Users Who Are Very Active in Kindling?
If a User is very active on a particular Idea you might suggest to the Idea author that they add the User as a contributor. If a User is very active in a particular Category or Campaign, you can offer them the opportunity to be a Moderator in that Category or in an upcoming related Campaign.
